Top Trips for Traveling with Hearing Aids

Share

It’s summer, which for many people means summer holidays. Whether you’re going on a road trip, or an around the world extravaganza, these are a few things to keep in mind if you’re travelling with hearing aids.

Don’t forget to bring your hearing aid tools

Extra batteries, a cleaning kit, dryer / dehumidifier, extra domes and a charging station if your hearing aids are rechargeable. All of these things are important to remember to bring, and you may struggle to buy on your holiday.

Flying with hearing aids

Here are a few tips to make your flying experience easier

  1. Where your hearing aids when you fly – whilst airports can be stressful, you’ll have a better time if you can hear announcements and important information
  2. Keep you hearing aid supplies in your hand luggage – there may be delays, layovers or the dreaded cancelled flight. Having spare batteries and accessories means you can deal with any situation
  3. Wear your hearing aids through security – they won’t set off the metal detectors, and if you are asked to remove them, they will simply be put through the x-ray scanners. Don’t worry – this won’t harm the hearing aid components in any way.

Road trips with hearing aids

Road trips are great fun – here are a few tips to make it easier for hearing aid wearers

  1. Only drive when you feel comfortable doing so – spending lots of time driving, especially if you are straining to hear, can lead to tiredness. If you are struggling to hear, or are tired, pull over or ask someone else to drive
  2. Use a remote mic – One of the best parts of a road trip is making conversation with whoever you are travelling with. To make this easier, clip your remote mic to their shirt or place it on the back seat, so you can hear everything clearly.
